The Test Server is accessible via an extra PC client - and thus an extra DCUO installation - and is used by the developers to make changes in the game available for (beta) testing.
Using the test server was originally only possible for members and nowadays for all those interested. Characters built on it are not transferable to the live servers, but will stay on the test server beyond content updates until deleted by the player. Gear, artifact XP and currency are provided by special vendors in order for players not having to worry about leveling up their created characters.
Usually game updates and new episodes are put on the test server for a while prior to their official release for players to test the new features and give feedback on the Testing Feedback board in the official DCUO Forums.
As of 2025 the test server client can be downloaded at http://launch.daybreakgames.com/installer/DCUO_Test_setup.exe.
Notes[]
- On occasion of the Stats Revamp (2017) the test server was completely reset and all player characters and leagues previously created were deleted in the process.
- As of 2023 the test server has periods of unavailability (offline) and/or unaccessibility (no login possible). Apart from the daily server reset (~30 mins) this usually happens before new content (episodes) is about to be released and likely indicates an internal testing phase by the developers.
- Whether the test server is up and running can be determined on the Game Server Status page.
- As of March 2025 the test server has been unavailable for regular users since before christmas 2024 and it is not clear if it is coming back.
