DC Universe Online Wiki

Player versus Environment (PvE) is a videogaming term used to describe a Player's interaction with a videogame's Environment objects or NPCs (computer controlled characters).

Player versus Environment gameplay might include fighting NPCs, solving puzzles, or navigating a maze. The term is used most widely in Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, and it's the focus of DC Universeā„¢ Online.

PvE Types[]

Open World PvE[]

PvE is the standard for Open Worlds in DC Universeā„¢ Online - the player is automatically placed in them when they enter the game. In PvE Open World, players can focus on completing missions without worrying about being attacked by players of the opposite faction, unless they decide to turn on their PvP flag or accept duels from other players.

Regular PvE Open World missions are given by NPCs and might be a one-off or refresh daily or weekly. Dailies and weeklies can be replayed before refresh by using Replay Badges.

Bounties[]

Main article: Bounties

Bounties, or Wanted, are a type of weekly mission that rewards players for taking down an open-world boss, usually an iconic character. They require players to team up in order to complete them. Forming groups of 4 to 8 players for bounties is recommended for an optimized performance.

Walk-Ins[]

Main article: Walk-In

Walk-ins are a type of PvE solo instance that's accessible only through portals in open worlds or headquarters. The player won't encounter any other players in this type of instance, unless they go in a group (this is the only type of instance that allows more players than the number it was designed for). This instance is refreshed several minutes after the player leaves it.

On Duty PvE[]

The On Duty menu presents 4 types of instances: Challenges (or Solos), Duos, Alerts, and Raids. They come in various difficulties, and Omnibus instances have a 5-minute cooldown for rewards. Rewards from raids from the latest 3 DLCs refresh every week, while rewards from the other types refresh weekly - they can be refreshed before daily/weekly reset by using Replay Badges.

Players can't fight each other while in On Duty PvE instances.

Challenges[]

Main article: Challenges

Challenges or Solos are a type of linear solo instance accessible via On Duty menu. Some of them are more difficult, slightly modified versions of previously existing walk-ins with better rewards, and might present three difficulty modes: Casual, Normal, and Elite.

Duos[]

Main article: Duos

Duos are a type of linear 2-player instance accessible via On Duty menu. A few of them are more difficult, slightly modified versions of previously existing walk-ins with better rewards, and might present three difficulty modes: Casual, Normal, and Elite. They can be ran solo via Private Matchmaking, but are more difficult than Challenges.

Alert[]

Main article: Alerts

Alerts are a type of linear 4-player instance accessible via On Duty menu. They require supporting roles, and might present three difficulty modes: Casual, Normal, Elite, and Elite Plus. They can be ran by a lesser number of players via Private Matchmaking, and are more difficult than Duos.

Raids[]

Main article: Raids

Raids are a type of linear 8-player instance accessible via On Duty menu. They require supporting roles, and might present three difficulty modes: Casual, Normal, Elite, and Elite Plus. They can be ran by a lesser number of players via Private Matchmaking, and are more difficult than Alerts.

Legends PvE[]

Main article: Legends PvE

Legends PvE are a type of linear 4-player instances accessible via On Duty menu, under the Events tab in the Custom Play section. Those instances are versions of earlier alerts and raids adapted to the Legends system, which allows players to run instances as certain iconic DC characters by using Legends Avatars. Only one Legends PvE instance is available per day, with daily rotation.
