Luzia Cavalera, once known as The Reckoning, is the main antagonist of Day of Reckoning and the major protagonist of the Light and Rain story arc.
Background[]
The Exobyte Killer[]
Luzia Cavalera and her twin sister Esperanza were born in Brazil, and was one of the humans to be affected when Future Lex Luthor released Future Brainiac's exobytes on Earth. Her exobytes gave her the ability to temporarily absorb the exobytes of other exobyte-enhanced people. But what could've been a gift turned out to be a curse: she grew addicted to her power, which led her to drain her opponents' exobytes until they are turned into ashes, and not using the power only led to excruciating pain.
Her power and vulnerable mind caught the eye of the demon Neron, who offered her a deal: he would remove the withdrawal effects of her powers if she targeted the magic users on his list so he could collect their souls. She accepted the deal and became a serial killer, calling herself The Reckoning, and with each kill, she became stronger.
Neron's list took her to Gotham City, where she took advantage of the chaos of the Apokoliptian invasion and murdered at least 4 people, including the rookie hero Captain Gotham in Diamond District (a crime witnessed by Kite Man). Luzia's actions didn't go unnoticed — while the GCPD could not identify her and had turned to Batman for help, the press called her "The Exobyte Killer." Her sister, now part of the Blue Lantern Corps, arrived in Gotham, but she escaped. Detective Chimp, noticing that The Reckoning was targeting magic users, asked John Constantine and the Caped Crusader to investigate the crime scenes.
Luzia's next stop was Kaznia City, a place where the well-to-do people are known to be involved with infernal forces. There, the local villain Monsieur Mort raised the undead from their graves, and his necromancy caught the attention of Felix Faust and his Magents of Chaos. She took advantage of the situation and killed several local heroes and exobyte-enhanced thugs, making people believe the magents were the real culprits. Meanwhile, Constantine arrived with members of the Justice League Dark to help the local police find the Exobyte Killer; the Hellblazer recruited an exobyter to help with his mission, and joined forces with the local hero Voivode.
While the exobyter was investigating the death of Jack (Voivode's sidekick), Constantine went to chase down a lead in the city, but was kidnapped by a legion of demons. The Reckoning disguised herself as him and invited the exobyter to the Necropolis to stop Faust, who was able to see under her disguise, and Luzia revealed her true self. Esperanza arrived right as she was about to kill the sorcerer, and the sisters argued. Luzia fled, and Esperanza joined forces with the exobyter to stop her sister's killing spree.
Voivode then decided to stop The Reckoning by herself. She went into Reckoning's Hideout, but got trapped. The exobyter rescued Constantine, then the two plus Esperanza went to help her ally. In the hideout, Constantine conducted a ritual and found out about Neron and the nature of his contract with Luzia. Esperanza and the exobyter rushed to confront The Reckoning, but they couldn't stop her from killing Voivode. Luzia attacked the duo, and they worked together to defeated her. By the end of the fight, the group was surprised by the arrival of Indigo-1, who inducted Luzia into the Indigo Tribe so she could atone for her crimes.
