JLDC: Cursed Themyscira is a tier 6 8-player operation in the Justice League Dark Cursed episode. It also features an elite version as well as an elite plus version.
Story[]
Rendezvous with Wonder Woman and Circe in Themyscira to confront Hecate and put a stop to her magical meddling.
Wonder Woman and Circe unite in Themyscira to execute the JLD's plan to stop Hecate, aided by 8 heroes and/or villains. After defeating a number of Hecate's servants, the group is intercepted by the Goddess of Magic herself. Wonder Woman's attempts at diplomacy fail when Hecate curses her, to Circe's delight as she hoped to be the exception to her matron's plans — but her dreams of world domination are cut short when the Olypian reveals that even her champion must return her magic and curses her as well, leaving the two cursed magic mentors to be defeated and restored by their allies.
After defeating more Servants, the group finds Hecate in a plaza, where they find Hecate, and Circe and Wonder Woman try to reason with her once again, but the goddess dismisses their protests and curses all their eight allies instead.
The curse takes the allies to the Collective Unconscious, a place of dreams featuring the demise of all of the worlds featured in the DC Universe Online, where they must defeat the Ethereal form of Hecate that inhabits the place in order to overcome the curse. Wonder Woman and Circe use their powers to assist their allies remotely.
Once Ethereal Hecate is defeated, the team finally confronts Hecate back in Themyscira, who's surprised to see that mere mortals overcame her influence. Wonder Woman keeps the goddess herself restrained, which prevents her from fighting the allies directly, so she uses an avatar, the Aspect of Hecate (which takes the form of every iconic she cursed in the episode), as well as summoning her Servents with portals. Circe stands back, using her transmutation powers to transform allies in bestiamorphs so they can close the portals.
Once defeated, Hetace finally gives up on her plan to take magic from the world, justifying her actions as a means to stop a greater danger that will arrive in the future and, wishing her children luck, returns to Olympus.

Walkthrough[]
You begin the raid in Themyscira: Gates of Tartarus, joining Wonder Woman and Circe. The raid group will proceed through a series of hallways, defeating various adds such as Harpies and Minotaurs along the way. Eventually the group encounter Hecate, who curses both Wonder Woman and Circe and turn them against the raid group.
1st Boss: Cursed Wonder Woman & Cursed Circe[]
A fairly straight forward boss encounter compared with other similar first boss encounters from recent raid content in DC Universe Online.
Recommended role setup for normal/elite/elite plus versions: 5 DPS, 1 Controller, 1 Heal, 1 Tank
On PS, Hold R1 to Block
Mechanics:
- Periodically a Beastimorph Berserker will spawn to assist the boss in battle. When they spawn there will be a large red AOE on the map indicating where they will land. Players should avoid this to avoid massive damage, however players away from the AOE may also take some damage and be knocked back (Ground Pound).
- Both Cursed Wonder Woman and Cursed Circe will need to be defeated in a similar timeframe, or the other will respawn.
Cursed Wonder Woman[]
- Cursed Pulse: Periodically there will be onscreen text stating: “Jump over Wonder Woman’s cursed pulse!”. Cursed Wonder Woman will have a red skull icon above her head, before releasing a purple shockwave towards the group. Players should jump over it or it will do considerable damage.
- Amazonian Deflection: Periodically there will be onscreen text stating: “Don’t Attack Wonder Woman while she’s Shielded!” Wonder Woman will have a red skull icon during this, before doing a reflect ability. Players should avoid damaging Wonder Woman or take large damage. Wonder Woman will have a gold shield and shield icon above her head while this ability is active.
- Whirlwind Lasso: Periodically Wonder Woman will spin around and charge around the map towards a corner of the room near the entrance. There will be a tell for this where Wonder Woman will point her lasso in a direction towards a lever around the edge of the room, though this may be hard to see depending on other animations in the room. This does large damage and will knockback affected players. She will usually do this once towards one corner, then again in another direction.
- Energy Explosion: There is a chance when Wonder Woman is at low health that she will stop and have a timed orange icon above her head. After a short time, she will deal a raidwide AOE with a big purple animation, dealing heavy damage to affected players. This is more likely to occur in elite plus but not exclusively so. (More info needed)
Cursed Circe[]
- Periodically there will be onscreen text stating: “Block if Marked by Circe’s Chain Lightning!”. Circe will have a red skull icon above her head, and the affected player will have a purple arrow above their head. The affected player should block or they will deal heavy damage over time to nearby players (Chain Lightning). The affected player will take considerable damage regardless.
Differences/considerations for elite plus:
- Curse: Circe will blink to a random player, spawning a purple AOE tell underneath her. Players should avoid this or it will do significant damage followed by a considerable damage over time for a short period. The damage over time may still affect some nearby players even if they evade the initial impact.
- More of a variety of adds will spawn to assist Wonder Woman and Circe in battle, and preferably should be KO'd as soon as possible. A Bestiamorph Defender may give one or both bosses a yellow shield if it is close by, mitigating incoming damage towards Wonder Woman and/or Circe. A Bestiamorph Mender may heal Wonder Woman and/or Circe if in close proximity.
After defeating Cursed Circe and Cursed Wonder Woman, the curse will be lifted and they will both rejoin you as you take the fight to Hecate. You fight through more enemies from Greek mythology as you progress through more hallways, before eventually encountering Hecate again. Hecate will then teleport the raid group to The Collective Unconscious, where an ethereal version of herself awaits.
2nd Boss: Ethereal Hecate[]
Can be potentially tricky with the Magic Zone phase in all versions of the raid, as the Water Spray bubbles KO on impact in all versions. The thought add phase can be troublesome in the elite and elite plus versions of the raid in particular - but with 2 tanks and enough damage dealt to any adds from agile players who can evade AOEs at short notice this shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Recommended role setup for normal/elite versions: 5 DPS, 1 Controller, 1 Heal, 1 Tank
Recommended role setup for elite plus: 4 DPS, 1 Controller, 1 Heal, 2 Tanks*
* (You can get away with 1 Tank provided that either a DPS or Controller can swap in the Lasso of Truth artifact (at rank 120) while having the Mesmerising Lasso Iconic Power ability in their loadout, and use it to pull any Thought adds that spawn during the Thought phase. This requires more setup however from the player in question)
Mechanics:
- Hecate will spawn a large blue donut AOE around the map (Rising Tide). All players should move to the middle near Hecate to avoid damage. Following this, Hecate will spawn a red AOE in the middle of the room (Swell), and players should then quickly move away from the middle of the room to avoid damage. Sometimes this will be followed shortly once again by the blue donut AOE.
- Periodically some players will get a blue circle marker around them. These players should stay away from other players as this will deal damage to nearby players and may stun them (Maelstrom).
- At a similar time period to the Maelstrom mechanic above, 3 random players (which may or may not also have the blue circle marker) will place a red AOE on the floor. All players should avoid the AOE placed or they will take damage and be knocked back and stunned (Waterspouts). Note that the time to avoid this is quite short.
- Sometimes (particularly during the thought phase but not exclusively) Ethereal Hecate will spawn a Whirlpool on a random group member. The group member should avoid this or it will deal considerable damage over time and crowd control them.
Thought phase[]
- Periodically there will be onscreen text stating: “Keep Stray Thoughts away from Ethereal Hecate!”. Portals will spawn around the map where adds will spawn, including Passive Thought and Angry Thought adds. These adds will move towards Hecate and buff her, so it is best practice to try and keep adds away from Hecate where possible, by having a Tank (or DPS/Controller with Lasso of Truth artifact/Mesmerising Lasso ability) pull the adds away from Hecate, and having the DPS defeat all adds that spawn as quickly as possible while remaining agile around AOE mechanics.
- Periodically there will be onscreen text stating: “Ethereal Hecate Absorbs Unconscious Energy!” When this occurs Hecate will be buffed, and have a mild dark aura around her. This may do heavy damage over time to nearby players (this damage over time does not have a name in the combat log, and implies Hecate is attacking the player directly).
- Hecate may sometimes spawn Whirlpool AOEs around the map. If a player is too close they may take damage over time from these and be crowd controlled.
Magic Zone phase/end phase[]
- Later in the fight, there may be onscreen text stating: “Magic Zones grant Super Speed!”. Ethereal Hecate will blink to the middle of the room during this. Blue pool AOEs will spawn, which if a player stands on they will be grounded, transformed into a ghost and will gain the Super Speed movement mode. (This phase may occur more than once depending on how quickly the group defeats Hecate after the initial phase)
- Shortly after, Hecate will have a red skull icon above her head and will be shielded with a Bubble, before firing a series of bubbles (Water Spray) around her clockwise towards the group. These will KO if these hit players directly (in all versions of the raid), so players will need to run around to evade these bubbles. The bubbles move through the map quickly so the super speed mode is essential for survival during this phase. This phase may happen more than once in succession, which may be something to consider if players are KO’d in the initial phase.
- Shortly after, Summoned Water Golem adds may spawn to assist Ethereal Hecate in battle.
- Ethereal Hecate may look in a direction while having a red skull icon above her head and with a red cone AOE in front of her, before firing bubbles (Water Spray) in front of her (these are slower than during the Magic Zone phase). These bubbles should be avoided or they will deal heavy damage or likely KO.
- Ethereal Hecate may have a red skull icon above her head as well as a red AOE in melee range, before firing bubbles (Water Spray) in all directions. Players should avoid these or they will deal heavy damage or likely KO.
Differences/considerations for elite plus:
- Rising Tide and Swell will both occur at a slightly higher frequency than in other versions of the raid.
- Most AOE attacks will hit much harder or likely KO a non-tank player on impact if not evaded if they weren't already a KO in other versions.
- The Thought phase may be troublesome for many groups in elite plus, so 2 tanks are highly recommended here. In addition DPS should focus primarily on defeating the Thought adds and mitigating if not stopping any Thoughts from reaching Ethereal Hecate.
- Violent Water: During the Thought phase large blue AOEs will spawn across much of the map, with the time between the spawn and impact being rather short. If this hits a player directly they will take massive damage and more likely be KO'd especially if a non-tank role. Players will need to be very agile to evade these and stay focused.
- It is best practice to stay max range of both Ethereal Hecate and any adds, as the adds may do abilities that can do heavy damage or KO to nearby players (mostly in melee range).
- (More info needed)
Once Ethereal Hecate is defeated the group can then return to Themyscira: Command Post for the final boss encounter.
Final Boss: Hecate[]
A fairly straightforward and arguably easy boss encounter by both normal, elite and elite plus content standards for DC Universe Online.
Recommended role setup for normal/elite/elite plus versions: 5 DPS, 1 Controller, 1 Heal, 1 Tank
Mechanics[]
Hecate is shielded for the fight, with the fight focused on mechanics and adds. There will be an Aspect of Hecate with a purple shield that will join the fight. There are different forms for the Aspect of Hecate, inspired by Swamp Thing, Wonder Girl, Zatanna and Deadman. Only three Aspects of Hecate may be seen in any run of the raid, so runs may differ on what Aspects of Hecate may appear and in which order.
Adds will spawn to assist Hecate in battle, such as Olympian Soldier, Menacing Cockatrice or Satyr Conscript. These will spawn from cloud portals. There will be onscreen text stating: “Go to Circe for a boon to destroy Hecate’s Portals!”. Circe will have a purple icon above her head and can be interacted with, which will transform players into Beastimorphs and allow them to interact with and close the portals.
Purple orbs will spawn after each portal has been closed respectively, which can be used to destroy the Aspect of Hecate’s shield. There will be onscreen text when this occurs, stating: “Aspect’s shield is damaged!”. Once 4 orbs have been placed directly at the aspect’s shield, the Aspect of Hecate will become vulnerable, this will also have onscreen text stating: “Hecate’s Aspect is Vulnerable!”.
Bombs will spawn, which players will need to interact with to stop them from exploding. (More info needed)
Periodically, purple AOEs will spawn on players, which should be avoided as these will spawn an orbital strike on the ground (Full Moon Blast). These do large damage over time or KO affected players. Some of these may sustain and track players for a time (Blackout Orb’s Moon’s Fury), and with this the AOE is bigger than the animation suggests, so even if the player is slightly near this attack they may take a milder damage over time.
- Unconscious Tear: This may use a Magic Burst attack which can deal heavy damage. (More info needed)
If Aspect of Hecate is in Zatanna form:
- Aspect of Hecate does a short red skull icon along with a red cone AOE, before firing metal balls in front of her (Cursed Glitter Ball). These should be evaded or will do massive damage to affected players.
- Magical Orbital: Aspect of Hecate may use a light pink AOE to stun her targets in the air. It is imperative that if a player is affected they break out of this and evade the AOE as soon as possible, or Aspect of Hecate will spawn a Magical Orbital, which will do heavy damage or likely KO a non-tank player.
- Irresistible Pull: Aspect of Hecate may use a light pink AOE (similar to above) to crowd control and stun her targets towards the middle of the AOE, dealing heavy damage over time to affected players. Again affected players should break out of this quickly and evade the AOE.
- Magic Burst: Aspect of Hecate may spawn a pink AOE in melee range of herself, dealing heavy damage to nearby affected players. This is more likely when she is teleporting around the room.
If Aspect of Hecate is in Deadman form:
- Soul Prison: (More info needed)
- Trapeze Attack: Aspect of Hecate will do an emote where he will jump up in the air, swing around on a trapeze in the direction of a random target, and then charge the target. This will deal heavy damage and may knock back the affected player. It may also KO in the elite and particularly elite plus versions of this boss encounter. (This may also do heavy damage to other nearby targets upon impact)
If Aspect of Hecate is in Swamp Thing form:
- Spore Cloud: Aspect of Hecate will spawn green gas AOEs that deal damage over time to affected players.
- Nature's Fury: Aspect of Hecate may use vines to pull most/all nearby players towards them, dealing a mild damage over time. This can be tricky as usually this will pull the group into the Spore Cloud AOE mechanic, or another AOE mechanic.
If Aspect of Hecate is in Wonder Girl form:
- Aspect of Hecate does a brief red skull icon before shooting yellow orbs in all directions (Ball Lightning). These should be avoided or affected players will take significant damage and be knocked back. This may also coincide with the aspect doing a Lightning Bolt, doing large damage to anything in close range.
- Lasso Vortex: Aspect of Hecate may do a red skull icon while lifting her hand in the air, stunning all players (this may be evaded if the player is blocking) in the air before the players return to the ground while tied up. The affected players will then need to spam the Square button (on PS) to break out quickly. During this the affected players may take a mild damage over time for a short while.
- Static Discharge: Aspect of Hecate may use an electric ability on her target, dealing damage and stunning the target.
- Battle Charge: Aspect of Hecate may charge a target, dealing heavy damage and some knockback to the affected player (or pet).
Wonder Woman may be KO’d, she will need to stay alive to help with the encounter. There will be onscreen text when this occurs stating: “Wonder Woman is down! Revive her to distract Hecate!”.
Differences/considerations for elite plus:
- Magic Blast: A random player will get a green stack marker, and will need to stack in close proximity with other players to minimise incoming damage. If correctly stacked affected players will take moderate damage. (More info needed)
- The biggest threat to the group in the elite plus version of this encounter is if the Aspect of Hecate is in its Swamp Thing form, and uses Nature's Fury to pull the group into AOEs, particularly the Spore Cloud AOE. Without sufficient shields/healing (ie. the heal will need to break out of this as soon as possible and heal/shield, possibly save a shield supercharge for this) this can easily catch the group off guard and cause a group wipe.
When 3 Aspects of Hecate are defeated the fight is over and you have completed the raid.
