An Episode is additional playable content to the base game. Subsequent episodes have increasing requirements in terms of the combat rating of the player character, and are arranged by tier.

Starting from Earth 3, upon release of an episode, all players with a minimum level (no CR requirement) can access an easier event version of its content, until the release of the next episode. While within, their CR is boosted to the minimum of the episode.

Since House of Legends (Episode), all episode content no longer has a CR cap regarding rewarding Source Marks, and all episodes are made permanently free to play as long as the minimum CR is reached.

While the story of episodes usually expands from the base game, the events that happen in episodes do not affect the base game (which can be considered to be taking place before all episodes). Episodes themselves form a continuity according to their chronological order of release.

Notes[]

  • While The Death of Superman does not count towards the episode number, its feats are located in the "Episode" category, meaning the game does classify it as one.
  • Previously episode content was available to members with an active subscription. Non-members were able to purchase single episodes in the marketplace.
  • On March 31st, 2015, Episode playable content was separated from powers, upgrades and Legends characters that were previously included in similarly named DLC packs.
  • Halls of Power Part II was the last quarterly episode, until Amazon Fury Part III, starting a new cycle of large episodes.
  • Episodes 15 - 26 were released on a monthly basis containing: one piece of content for large groups (raid, operation or alert) with the other piece of content for small groups (solo challenge or duo).
  • Previously, there were periods called Open Episodes during which most or all episodes were free to play with some limitations. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, episodes went free-to-play. On June 16th, 2021, this became permanent and episodes were removed from the marketplace.
  • Almost all On Duty instances that are pre-episodes or from the first 4 episodes (and still frequently in later episodes) are named directly after the location used in the instance. This has led to the location and the On Duty instances often being confused or referred to interchangeably, even though as the game expanded many instances now have multiple locations and often reuse old locations.
