Captain Atom is a nuclear-powered super-hero. Beginning his career in the military as a member of the U.S. Air Force, he was framed for a crime he did not commit; to avoid a death sentence, he was forced to undergo scientific experimentation.
His powers stem from an ability to tap into the quantum field, granting him superhuman strength, flight, energy manipulation, radioactive absorption, and molecule manifestation. Captain Atom is basically moral man driven by a sense of commitment to humanity, building a better present as a good foundation for the future
Background[]
Court-martialed air force captain Nathaniel Adam volunteered for the top secret Captain Atom Project in order to prove his innocence to charges of murder and treason. Adam's superiors theorized that a strange alien alloy would protect him from an atomic blast, however, a disastrous experiment melded the alloy to Adam's body and catapulted him 18 years into the future. When the quantum-powered Adam reappeared, he was pardoned in exchange for service as the U.S. sanctioned super hero, Captain Atom.

Trivia[]
- Captain Atom first appeared in Space Adventures #33 (March 1960)
- Captain Atom is voiced by Joe Mandia.
- Captain Atom's metallic "skin" is composed of a portion of the alien being known as Silver Shield, and is called "Dilustel". Pieces of the alien's metal body were used in Project Atom, and on later subjects like Major Force and Bombshell. The metal is almost totally indestructible. Only X-Ionizer technology can cut the metal and the magical guns of the Crimson Avenger were able to crack his skin. Breaking through it causes Captain Atom to Quantum Jump as if he had absorbed too much energy.
