Audio refers to the various sound effects within DC Universe™ Online that may improve atmosphere and immersion, and in some cases have gameplay applications. There are four types of audio, all of which can have their volume individually changed within the audio settings.

Audio becomes more muffled as your health depletes.

Effects[]

Sound effects such as weapon attacks, using Powers, etc.

Player Briefings, Collections, Investigations, and Exo-Material sources all have a sound effects that get louder the closer you get to them to help players find them.

Music[]

Different music are played in different locations and situations.

Boss themes are played in combat with bosses.

Many of them share music; for example, most Bounty bosses have the same theme, with the exception of BOUNTY: Full House which has a Joker-style theme.

Fortress of Solitude: Sunstone Matrix has an elaborate boss theme, which is shared with Doomsday (Raid), and a short, less intense excerpt is played during the first boss of Fortress of Solitude: Power Core (Brainiac-controlled Supergirl, Power Girl, or Bizarro), while Xa-Du's theme is largely different, but with a similar excerpt in it. This all highlights their shared Kryptonian origin, with Xa-Du's version being more sinister and twisted to reflect the nature of the battle in the Phantom Zone.

The H.I.V.E. base in Metropolis Metrodome share a few similar notes with the Brainiac Harvester Ship; this in a storytelling sense is foreshadowing that Queen Bee has allied with Brainiac, which is revealed at the end of the instance before the boss fight against her.

Metal Pt. II: Damage Control is unique in that at the end, after defeating The Drowned, a song with lyrics automatically plays. It tells the story of Aquawoman from Earth -11 and The Drowned, finishing with a voice line from Batman Who Laughs.

Voice[]

Various characters in the game speak audibly, as performed by voice actors in order to convey the progress of story and gameplay, although subtitles are available for those who prefer to play without sound or are hard of hearing.

An exception is Jericho, who is mute and instead speaks in sign language, which is also shown in the subtitles.

Player characters are not voiced and their lines are not even shown in subtitles. What they say can only be inferred by the reactions and replies from NPCs.
