Adaptive Augments are Augments that are specific to an episode. Each character role has 2 Adaptive Augment slots. Access to the episode is required and they offer special bonuses within the episode's content - although their base stats will still apply outside of it. They include:

When a character reaches the minimum CR for an episode, a mission would appear in the journal that can be immediately completed to gain 2 free Adaptive Augment boxes that would allow you to choose 2 Adaptive Augments. Later also grants were used to distribute the initial set.

Like Artifacts, they require breakthroughs at certain levels, consuming unique catalysts from the relevant content.

As of the release of The Sins of Black Adam, Adaptive Augments from the three most recent episodes (Legion of Doom (Episode), Dark Knights (Episode), The Sins of Black Adam) are bought with their specific episode currency (5 each). All those from previous episodes can be bought at episode vendors for 5 Source Marks each (completing the aforementioned mission is not required), and their catalysts may also be bought for various amounts of Source Marks or episode currencies.

While their secondary effects appears to unlock at a low level, they require much more experience to level up; a regular artifact requires about 40,000 experience to reach level 80 when the first tier is unlocked, while Adaptive Augments vary depending on the CR of the episode, but even the lowest CR option, Cybernetic Cores, require a whopping 346,987 experience to reach level 15 to unlock the first effect.

Adaptive Augments can be fed with generic or episode-specific Exobytes; for more information, see that page.

In contrast to most other items in the game adaptive augments do not appear in the player character's inventory and must be used when initially chosen, but become directly available in the fortification menu.
