A Fool and His Gold

A Fool and His Gold! is a daily mission unique to the St. Patrick's Day event, Mxyzptlk's Mischief. It can be accepted by speaking to Mister Mxyzptlk, located within the House of Legends's Foyer. This mission can only be completed while the event is active.

Background[]

Mister Mxyzptlk, an imp from the 5th-Dimension, is known for the pranks he's played on Superman, Lex Luthor, and other super-powered beings over the years. Now he's learned of the mythical leprechaun, and has decided to breath new life into this legend. He's scattered pots of gold throughout the city of Metropolis, and has challenged the hero community to capture his gold coins.

Notes[]

Pots of gold at the ends of rainbows can be found all over Metropolis in the areas marked on the map when the mission is tracked. Each pot has 12 health. Whenever it loses 3 health, it drops a fixed number of gold coins (1 after 3 damage, 2 after 6 total damage, 2 more after 9 total damage, and finally 3 after 12 total damage), for 8 total. As gold coins expire quickly, players should interact with the ones dropped first before triggering another wave. Normally, all attacks deal 1 damage (so you need to hit it 3 times every wave), but the very first attack always deals 2 damage (so you should only hit it twice at first).

Each pot also comes with one random mechanic:

Two black speakers appear, forcing players to dance. They have 262 health each.
Sometimes green coins would accompany the gold. Interacting with this would result in a small amount of damage and a knock back.
When the large green clover marker appears, a boulder would soon fall in that location, dealing some damage.
If you ignore the leprechaun when he demands you talk to him, he would encase players and shove them away. Since the encase can be quickly broken out of, it may be advantageous not to spend the time to talk to him depending on player position.

Players get credit if another player nearby picks up a gold coin but only if you damaged the pot of gold at least once. You cannot interact with the coins if you are not doing the mission.

A Fool and His Gold must be completed ten times in order to earn a seasonal feat only available during the St. Patrick's Day event.

Calculator: "Oh good, you made him happy. I don't know how many of those damned Golden Coins it'll take to get him out of our dimension, but I hope we reach that mysterious number soon."

Since 2020 23 Golden Coins need to be collected for this daily mission, formerly it required 33.
- Since 2025 49 Golden Coins need to be collected and the mission rewards only 4 Lucky Clovers instead of 8.
